According to official U.S. statistics from 2016, medical error ranks as the third most common cause of death. These errors result from either actions or omissions by healthcare professionals that lead to fatal consequences for patients.

The most frequent reasons for medical errors involve either an incorrect selection of therapeutic procedures or treatments, or the correct choice but with flawed execution. With the continuous evolution of medical technology, particularly in highly specialized procedures, healthcare professionals require rigorous and comprehensive practical training. However, this training is often conducted on live patients, posing significant safety risks and raising complex ethical challenges.

Aviation industry experience demonstrates the effectiveness of simulation-based training. Since flight simulators became mandatory for pilot training, the rate of fatal accidents has decreased nearly twelvefold — from the 1980s, when records were first kept, to the present day.
